Kristof Dreier — where tech meets text
To book or not to book
Yep, finally I bought my own copy of “Objective-C und Cocoa” by Klaus M. Rodewig and Amin Negm-Awad. Since I got an awful lot of work to do I didn’t really find the time to start reading (just read the first 200 pages) though it looks good, ignoring the fact the authors didn’t do their homework quite well for the second run.
Just let me give you an example:
Just let me give you an example:
NSString* aString; einString = [NSString alloc]; aString = [aString init]; [einString release];</pre>Kinda screwed up the translation and with it user’s understanding of allocation, initialization and release. Thumbs up!
“Well, an experienced programmer should identify the mistake.” you might say. Right, but being a book for beginners this dumb mistake is unnecessary. Not to forget these four lines are not written one below the other but split up about two pages.
Enough nagging. So I start from scratch, getting to know Objective-C a little bit better, therefore the cocoa section will be cut down, though I’ll go on writing my articles in English if I have the time to.
But that’s not the only reason. I got an assignment on designing and programming the website for “Schwarz Weiss Münster e.V 07” – really need the money :).
Working the whole day with PHP I found out that it’s a pain in the arse to get things done. A short while ago I heard about CakePHP “a rapid development framework” and though it’s written in PHP it really kicks asses. Not as much as Ruby on Rails or Django, but this is the coolest thing I’ve ever seen so far for programming PHP.
A new method to get things done much faster than in my whole lifetime before.Again I will NOT break up with Cocoa, but as badly as I would like to go on with Cocoa, I need the frickin money.

“the fact that the”
“are not written one below the other but split up about two pages” -> hört sich komisch an, aber mir fällt grad auch keine Verbesserung ein … zu früh! Ich denk später nochmal drüber nach.
“in case I have the time to” -> einfach nur: “if I have (oder find) the time to” find ich.
“New thing to get things done” Vielleicht lieber so -> “A state-of-the-art program to get things done …” :) Ich liebe diesen Ausdruck! Danke, irische Sprachschule ^^
Ansonsten: nicht so viel fluchen, lieber Kris ;)
Vom Inhalt versteh ich wie immer nix :D
